Crumbs!!!!!!!!!

« on: February 09, 2017, 06:45:20 PM »

Hi all.

I've been a bit of a fan of Karmadon tonearms. I now have three  grin

Two of those are Gray Research 108 clones and the other is one of Serges new design 12" viscous arm.
The original cartridge slide on the 108 clone was a friction fit. I decided to modify this to enable it to be lockable and more of a positive fit (once locked the slide is pulled flat)
So out with the drawing pad and tech drawing equipment.
I made a few templates and stuck them to a flat aluminium plate and scribed round them so I could make my slide plate which had a "H" shape to it. This was also drilled and tapped.
This was cut out and filled to shape, then polished.
The existing original mount was overlayed with another template and centre dotted, drilled and filled the shape. It now has a slot to enable movement.

The next bit was a bit scary. I applied another template to the tonearm, centre dotted it and drilled a hole in it  shocked  No going back now.
It all came together and work beautifully.......Job done.
One down, one more to go.

Video was taken before I cleaned up the new slide with a set of jewelers files and polished it

When i read your last post i was a bit scared, but the knurled bolt does not look out of place at all (my personal opinion, as somebody else might say  wink )

Very clever and innovative but I don't dare to do in on my Gray 108C.

Now can you come up with some solution on how to adjust the tracking weight?

Already thought of that one.
I have various spin on weights that are hidden from view on the underside of the arm directly under the finger lift, so the thread is hidden too grin

Here's the 2g installed
