Description

The 1965 King Seiko KSK was introduced four years after the release of the first series that, alongside Grand Seiko, demonstrated the company’s ability to create mechanical watches with high accuracy. With its sharp, angular case and high functionality, it was the watch that ultimately defined King Seiko’s character.

Born during a time of significant advances in both technical and design development of Seiko’s watchmaking, King Seiko laid the foundation for the company’s future success in the prestige watch arena. With its resistance to water and use of a hacking seconds hand, the King Seiko KSK was an eminently practical watch that earned legions of fans. Since 2022, Seiko has revived this classic style in the King Seiko collection while endowing the resulting watches with the modern enhancements of contemporary watchmaking.

The King Seiko SJE089 is inspired by the classic KSK, and powered by the slimline Caliber 6L35, which marks the movement's first appearance in the main King Seiko collection. It features an elegant silver-colored dial with a new sunray finishing technique that endows the watch with a finish more understated and delicate than previous KSK-based creations, resulting in a look that is even closer to the original.

Not only is the watch slimmer than the previous limited-edition King Seiko watches that also used the 6L35 movement, but they are also 0.2mm thinner than the original King Seiko KSK, despite having automatic winding and a date window. This is made possible thanks to enhancements in the case construction and the boxed-shaped crystal whose height has been reduced.

The hour and minute hands are faceted, demonstrating the high-quality manufacturing used to craft modern timepieces that honor the King Seiko legacy and advance the collection into today’s era. A refined case design with slimmer lugs are faceted, with large, flat planes and sharp angles. The surfaces are polished to achieve a distortion-free, mirror finish, causing the cases to reflect light in a pleasing manner that complements the dial.
