Analeigh Tipton Talks Fashion, Beauty, and Her Problem With Bangs

She got everyone's attention as the lovesick babysitter in last summer's Crazy, Stupid, Love (yes, she was the girl who took those nudey pics for Steve Carrell's character). But the America's Next Top Model alum and star of the upcoming film, Damsels in Distress (out April 6th), is actually less of a clotheshorse than you might've thought. We got to chat with the gorgeous gal about all things fashion, beauty, and her problem with bangs.

Glamour: Let's talk fashion! Did you have a favorite article of clothing when you were growing up?

Analeigh Tipton: I actually loved to dress like a boy, and I still kind of do and try to sneak boy's pieces into my wardrobe. I have Levi's boot cut jeans that actually might be from the boy's department, but I love them. Those jeans and flannel are my favorites. If I could choose anything to wear for the rest of my life, I'd just want a boy's outfit.

Glamour: Were you into clothes as a little girl?

Analeigh: Technically you could say that I was fashionable… but it was definitely in my own mind. I was consciously trying to make a statement with what I was wearing.

Glamour: Did this come at a certain age?

Analeigh: I have an older sister and my mom would dress us up identically, so in all of our pictures, we're in these giant pink, poufy outfits. I remember when I was four or five, we all went to a theme park and I had to go to the bathroom but couldn't hold it in anymore. Let's just say, I had to buy a brand new outfit! But that moment was the first time I remember ever wearing something different from my sister at an event. It was my breakthrough moment when I decided I was never going to match my sister again!

Glamour: So how do you dress now?

Analeigh: I like casual clothes. The club-wardrobe makes me so anxious and nervous because really, I just love my Birkenstocks! It's terrible, but I do.

Glamour: What's your least favorite thing to shop for?

Analeigh: Fancy clothes - I hate shopping for date clothes.

Glamour: Are there any accessories that you can't live without?

Analeigh: I have this necklace with a big Roman coin on it that I made from my mom's 70's-era belt. I also wear my grandfather's vintage watch all the time. Those are two pieces I really love.

Glamour: What about your handbag? Is there anything you always have in your bag?

Analeigh: I always carry around a giant makeup case with about fifteen items in it. I so want to be the girl who just carries lipstick as if that's all I need, but I'm just not that girl. I need my lipstick, but then, just in case my cheeks start to lose their color, I need my blush. Then I'll need my oil pads…so I just take the whole thing. And now I need a full on fashionable backpack for it all!

Glamour: Are there any style tricks that anyone taught you?

Analeigh: I think the best advice is to stay simple and true to your gut. If you feel uncomfortable in something, no matter how fashion-forward it is, it's going to look funny. At the end of the day, I don't think it really matters what you're wearing, because if you shine through in that confidence, you really can convince anybody that what you're wearing is great…as long as it doesn't have too many sparkles!

Glamour: Do you have any hidden talents that we don't know about?

Analeigh: I crochet, but I have only crocheted one thing in ten years—a blanket, that's not quite a blanket, but will be some day. It's my ten-year project.

Glamour: Whoa! Either you're really slow, or your blanket's gonna be huge!

Analeigh: I think some little elf comes into my room at night and unravels what I did that day. I probably won't finish it until I find the elf myself and negotiate something with it.

Glamour: If you could have one daily luxury, what would it be?

Analeigh: I would love someone to follow me around with a boom box so I could have a soundtrack to record my daily moments. That would be awesome! I also wouldn't complain if I had someone doing my hair—I have a hard time with my hair.

Glamour: Well everyone's hair looks better when someone else does it.

Analeigh: Bangs are tough. I found that walking in the wind, you have to walk backwards, which can be quite dangerous, but at least it keeps the bangs down!
