Persicaria polymorpha or the Giant Fleeceflower is a rhizomatous, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with large plumes of white flowers held aloft on tapering, fluffy spikes.
The blooms fade to pink and then become reddish-brown towards autumn.
This is a very useful landscaping plant filling sunny corners or providing a strong backdrop to long, mixed borders.
But most of all it is good being rhizomatous therefore not self seeding as so many relative plants do and in the process become invasive.
This plant will withstand boggy conditions so goes well near to water features or stream. It can also tolerate some heat and humidity.
Well suited to informal and cottage style gardens, it attracts butterflies and makes a good cut flower.
