Chelsea star Guro Reiten is serial title winner who hates the limelight

Since signing Norwegian international Guro Reiten in 2019, Chelsea have won every single WSL title.

Reiten has featured in all four of Chelsea's title campaigns and has taken home a gold medal at the end of each one of them.

And it is no coincidence either - the exceptionally humble winger bagged 11 assists last season, the most of any player in the WSL.

The accolade is the perfect demonstration of the way the 29-year-old plays: selflessly and skillfully.

Big names like Sam Kerr, Lauren James and Fran Kirby often overshadow just how pivotal the Norwegian has been to Chelsea's dominance in English women's football .

But Reiten's role has not gone unnoticed: she is one of the 30 nominees to make the shortlist for the 2023 Ballon d'Or award.

Over her four seasons at Chelsea, she has slowly but surely worked her way into becoming a regular on Emma Hayes starting sheet.

She made 39 appearances last season - more than any other Chelsea player as the club won the domestic double yet again.

And she already looks set for another impressive season.

It was Reiten to the rescue again as she poked home the equaliser in their match against nine-player Manchester City to salvage a point for the Blues.

The winger deserved her share of glory having so often served up goals on a plate to others.

Reiten was brought up in Norway in a town which also produced Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg.

Reiten's mother played top-flight football in Norway and coached her for a number of years.

She spent around eight seasons playing in the Norwegian top league - the Toppserien - for a number of clubs.

When she left in 2019, she was the league's top scorer for the season.

But the Toppserien's loss is the WSL's gain and Reiten has a total of 23 goals in 78 appearances.

But she told the BBC earlier this year that personal acclaim and attention has never been the draw of the game for her.

She said: "I love this position - I love playing football but everything that comes with it - media and interviews - that's not my favourite part."
