Finland, Tampere based Thrash Sleezers TORNADO have released a cover for LOUDNESS classic “Dark Desire”, featuring AMORAL‘s Ari Koivunen. Stream it below.

“Ladies and Gentlemen! Tornado are very proud to present to you our cover of the Loudness classic “Dark Desire” This song was recorded during the sessions for our latest album “Black President” but because I was not satisfied with my vocal performance, we didn’t put it on the album. Musically speaking, the guys did a great job with the song and Minoru Niihara is a fantastic singer and there was no way I was going to tarnish his good name by being a scrub (not to mention, Akira Takasaki is my favorite guitarist of all time!) so I thought to myself, who is the best singer I know in Finland? Why Amoral’s Ari Koivunen of course! I got in touch with Ari to ask if he would be willing to do a “duet” with me on this and without hesitation he agreed! I then took the trip to Helsinki and went Amoral guitarist Ben Varon’s Imperial Cassette Recording Facilities where he Produced and Recorded the vocals for us. (For those who might not know, or remember, Ben played leads on the Tornado debut album “Amsterdam, Hellsinki”) We hope you enjoy this as much as we do, and if there are any Radio outlets out there interested in playing this, you can contact us directly and we will send you the WAV file! Ari Koivunen is a Finnish heavy metal singer who rose to fame as the winner of the Finnish singing competition Idols in 2007. He has since gone on to become one of Finland’s most popular and best-selling recording artists. Koivunen is a member and a vocalist of two Finnish bands: Ari Koivunen (2007-) and at  the end of the year 2008 Ari joined the Finnish band AMORAL, who released their fourth album (first one with Ari) “Show Your Colors” in 2009.

Ongoing Raskasta Joulua -Tour, Next Tour Dates

Raskas Joulu (Heavy Christmas) — a Finnish project which celebrates Christmas and its music tradition mixed with metal — is touring now and having souldout concerts all over Finland.

Taking part in this year’s event are the following musicians:

Marco Hietala (Nightwish, Tarot, Northern Kings), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica, Northern Kings), J. Ahola (Teräsbetoni, Northern Kings), JP Leppäluoto (Charon, Harmaja,Northern Kings), Tommi ”Tuple” Salmela (Tarot), Ari Koivunen (Solo, Amoral), Ilja Jalkanen (Kiuas,Solo) and Antony Parviainen (Machine Men). Soloists vary by location.

In Raskas Joulu -band are playing the “old familiars”: Erkka Korhonen (Artistic Director and a solo guitarist), Vili Ollila (keyboardist), Erkki Silvennoinen (bassist), Tuomas Wäinölä (rhythm guitar) as well as a new member Twist Twist Erkinharju (Peer Günt, Leningrad Cowboys, Los Bastardos Finlandeses) in drums.

Ari Koivunen Performs Acoustic Versions Of Heavy Metal Classics

Finnish singer Ari Koivunen (Amoral) and guitarist Gary Keskinen performed an acoustic set of classic heavy metal and hard rock covers last night (Wednesday, October 20) at Club Lady Moon in Helsinki. A couple of the fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be viewed below (courtesy of “Anire100”).

Koivunen is best known as the winner of the 2007 Finnish national TV talent competition “Idols”. He has released two solo albums thus far — 2007’s “Fuel For The Fire” and 2008’s “Becoming”.

Ari Koivunen Covers Dio, Deep Purple For Charity

Finnish singer Ari Koivunen (Amoral) took part in a charity concert called Millstones 2010  on October 13 in Helsinki. The event’s goal was to raise awareness and funds for treatment for persons suffering from intoxicant addiction.

Fan-filmed video footage of Ari performing cover versions of Dio’s “Don’t Talk To Streangers” and Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” (with Koivunen on drums and vocals!) can be viewed below.
