Abstract

In Mongolia more than 600 fluorite deposits are known, especially in the eastern and central parts of the country which host economically important fluorite deposits. Nearly all of the fluorite deposits in Mongolia are hydrothermal type, which can be divided into two genetic groups based on their relation to volcanic and plutonic rocks. The former group is classified as epithermal fluorite deposits and fluorite deposits in the carbonatite host. The latter group is classified as types of bertrandite-phenacite-fluorite, albitite, Mo/Sn-W, and pegmatite. The total annual production of fluorite reached 527,000 tonnes in 1995. At present, Bor-Undur, Adag, Zuun Tsagaan Del, Tsagaan Elgen, Urgun, Delgerkhaan, and Bayan-Ovoo deposits are in commercial production, and further exploration is being carried out. The largest mining and ore processing complex is built on the Bor Undur deposit.
