Backstage and Runway Imagery for sacai's Layer-Heavy SS20 Collection
Teasing a new Nike LD Waffle.
sacai has just presented its collection in Paris for Spring/Summer 2020. Chitose Abe once again displays her penchant for reworking military-infused garb, creating quirky details that functionally work with clothing. While there are some colors in the collection — seen in the tropical-print shirts and striped dress shirts — earthy tones and blacks dominate this collection.
Draping silhouettes are created from a series of oversized garments stacked atop each other, forming complete and unified looks; the collection reaffirms sacai’s unmatching layering capabilities. Military staples like the MA-1, parka jacket, M-65, and cargo pants, all receive their special interpretations with strap detailing, button accouterments and over-sized pockets, while more light-hearted and fun pieces like the asymmetrical-brim hats, gradient madras-print pants, zebra-patterned items show a more playful and summertime awareness — there are even colorful T-shirts that read large quotes from the film The Big Lebowski.
As no surprise to us, the collection also teased another Nike collaboration, or rather, a new colorway of the highly-successful collaborative Nike LD Waffle. This upcoming colorway features a predominantly black color scheme made from a mishmash of materials – leather, suede, and nylon. Rounding off the looks are a series of fits dedicated to the workwear canvas of choice – denim. Dark indigo/black jeans and boxy denim jackets come fully-equipped with large fasteners and unorthodox zipper placement.
