Jennifer Larson
Director of Credit Programs and UNC Summer School
Jennifer Larson is the Director of Credit Programs and Summer School. Dr. Larson helps manage credit programs run through Digital and Lifelong Learning, provide services for online credit programs and non-degree students across campus, and administer summer sessions for all units within Academic Affairs.
She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English at UNC-Charlotte (1999, 2003), and her PhD in English at UNC-Chapel Hill (2008).
Prior to joining the DLL leadership team, Dr. Larson had taught writing, literature, and film courses in UNC’s Department of English & Comparative Literature since 2008, and she was the department’s Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2019-2021.
In 2014, she won UNC-Chapel Hill’s Tanner Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. She is a Quality Matters Certified Master Reviewer and served as a UNC System Digital Learning Initiative Associate Faculty Fellow in Summer 2021. Her research interests include online pedagogy, pedagogies of care and compassion, African American drama, and contemporary American cinema. Her work has appeared in Inside Higher Education, The North Carolina Literary Review, The South Carolina Review, and Women’s Studies. She has also co-edited two essay collections–The Sentimental Mode: Essays in Literature, Film, and Television (2014), and Reading Contemporary African American Drama: Fragments of History, Fragments of Self (2007)–and published two monographs–Understanding Walter Mosley (2016) and Understanding Suzan-Lori Parks (2012), which won the College Language Association’s Creative Scholarship Award.
