Not too much progress today, but I did manage to finish off the body chambers. They’re carved 31mm deep, into a 38mm body, and it leaves it tipping the scales at 1.75kg (3lb 14oz).
Yes, there’s still a big chunk to remove for the neck but, as you say, that chunk will be getting replaced with exactly the same volume of the same type of wood (minus pickup routs). Plus there’s the maple cap to go on top.
Won’t you be chopping a channel down the middle for the neck. I suppose that doesn’t affect the weight apart from what you take out for the pickups
